If for some reason your attorney becomes unavailable, they should have other family attorneys or assistants on call to answer your questions and respond in a timely manner.
There should be no problem in a potential family law attorney providing testimonials from past clients. Don’t feel uncomfortable with asking an attorney for client references or testimonials either. They completely understand and it’s a very common request they handle daily.
You don’t want to hire a family law attorney based on cost but it wouldn’t be truthful to say that price wasn’t a deciding factor in some people choosing one attorney over another.
You don’t want the cheapest lawyer fresh out of law school, especially when concerning family law but you also don’t want to be taken advantage of by outrageous fees and costs. So, how do you know if what you’re paying is reasonable? Ask for references and ask around in your network.
Is the attorney known as someone with a great deal of integrity? When you contact the references do past clients mention the words integrity, respect, or honesty? You want an attorney that gives you the truth and doesn’t get your hopes up.
It’s critical to be able to trust your attorney and have confidence in their skillset and experience to be able to deliver the best possible results.
